Poplar Run Penguins
Welcome to the exciting world of summer swim teams! By joining the Poplar Run Penguins, your child will help continue to build the legacy of what we hope will become a proud staple of the Poplar Run community. The Penguins swim team extends a sincere thank you to the Poplar Run Homeowners Association for their support. Our community recognizes the importance of creating a positive family atmosphere where our children can develop their swimming skills, overall confidence, and lasting friendships. The team offers a place for youth of all swimming abilities to become strong, safe swimmers and to build friendships that continue beyond the pool deck for both swimmers and parents. Maintaining a swim team requires many diverse skills and can be a lot of work, but at Poplar Run we always find a way to make it an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
Swimmer Eligibility: Swimmers must be members of the Poplar Run Pool, either as residents or with a non-resident membership, and between the ages of 5 and 18, as of June 1, 2026.
Registration Fees:
Registration fees cover the cost of professional coaches, MCSL dues, awards, and ribbons. Fees include all practices, meets, the 2026 Team t-shirt and team swim cap.
Practice Schedule: The season will start with afternoon practices from May 26 - June 17. Coaches will use the first week of practice to evaluate swimmers and determine the appropriate practice group. Beginning after the last day of school for MCPS, there will be a morning and afternoon practice option for both groups through July 16. Please note: practice times may be altered or canceled based on attendance trends.
Swim Meets: The swim meet season kickoff with time Time Trials on June 6 and concludes with Divisional Championships on July 18. All-Star Meets will be held July 25 & 26 for qualified swimmers.
Volunteers: The swim team is organized entirely by parent volunteers striving to ensure that each swimmer has a memorable summer experience. Parent volunteers are critical for the success and operations of the team and swim meets. Please support your children by volunteering to help the Poplar Run Penguins be the best team they can be!
