Win vs. Upper County & Relay Carnival Reminders

Congratulations to all our Penguins with a big WIN against Upper County. Tomorrow - Sunday is our Divisional Relay Carnival at Kemp Mill.

Here are the reminder details for Sunday’s Divisional Relay Carnival @ Kemp Mill:

  • Kemp Mill Swim Club Address ~ 11805 Stonington Place, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
  • The theme for the Sunday Relay Carnival is Comfy Cozy! Come dressed in your comfy clothes - think PJs and sweatpants.
  • Parents and swimmers should arrive no later than 7:45am. For those parents who are volunteering, please arrive no later than 7:45am to prepare for the Relay Carnival.
  • Your swimmers should wear their swim meet suit - for girls, a one-piece suit with no zippers or other fastening devices & for boys, a jammer-like suit. Exemptions to the MCSL rules for swim suits will be granted only for religious beliefs, medical conditions, etc. Please see one of the team reps if this is the case.
  • What to bring for You and Your Swimmer:
    • For your swimmer - please make sure that they have Goggles + Extra 2x Spare, Penguins Swim Cap + Extra Spare, towel, WATER!, sunscreen, bug spray, something to sit on, and healthy snacks - fruit, good carbs, and healthy proteins are perfect to bring to the meet.
    • For your own family, we recommend you to bring chairs, shade, sunscreen, bug spray, and LOTS OF WATER!
    • Not required but is nice to have is cards or something NON-ELECTRONIC to do in between events.
    • The Kangaroo Cafe will be open for snacks & drinks - They accept cash & venmo payments.
  • Parents = Please remind your swimmer to use their listening ears on Sunday. They need to keep an ear & eye out for the Events they are swimming in. Remind them to keep track of their Swim Cap & Goggles and make sure they are ready to go for their events.
  • We have an assigned Team Area - Area 4. Check out the attached layout for the exact location.
    • Please encourage your swimmer to stay in our Team area if not swimmer and/or cheering on their teammates. Encourage your swimmer to cheer on their teammates as they swim. It’s always cool to watch the older swimmers get encouragement from the younger swimmers :)
  • Parking: Kemp Mill will have a few attendants in the lot to help direct you. Beyond the reserved spots, the rest of the lot is open first-come, first-serve, *up to* the cones at the far end. Please do not park beyond the cones at the far end of the pool, in the fire lane, in the handicapped spots (unless you have a valid tag/placard) or along the driveway. Kemp Mill needs to keep the driveway clear for cars to enter and exit the parking lot. There is limited parking on the grass to the right of the driveway (when driving in).
    • There is also parking available on the local streets. Please do not park directly across from the pool driveway (it makes turning in and out difficult), and please be courteous to the KM Pool neighbors and do not block driveways. Once the lot is full, please drop your swimmers off at the beginning of the driveway, and then go find a parking spot on the street. It is very hard to turn around inside the lot when it is full.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

  • Before Event 1, we will be holding a kickboard race for our pre-team / Little Blues swimmers. Pre-team swimmers (or younger siblings) from any team are welcome to join that event. We will have older kids in the water as "Swim Buddies" to help them along as needed. So, if your Little Blue is coming, make sure they are in their swimsuit and bring goggles.
  • Following tradition, we will also have both a "Parent Relay" and a "Coaches Relay" after the last event. The team reps will decide the length and makeup of those relays during the meet. So make sure you bring your Swimsuit, googles, and swim cap if you want to join in the fun!
